What is Yoga Nidra and Why Should it be part of your Yogic Practice

The current state of the conscious collective minds is one of depression, anxiety, feelings of inadequacy, irritability and unhappiness. All these mental states bring about physical and mental suffering, degeneration and diseases such as cancers and premature death eventually. I don’t want to come across as the barer of bad new news, but this is the reality that we should all sit up acknowledge and take responsibility for. Our bodies respond to our mental states, and this has been scientifically proven (journal in here)

Firstly it is important to understand how the mind works and the different aspects of the mind and how to access them. The mind has different layers, and these layers are including the conscious mind (Sanskrit it is known as jagrat) which is the working mind, can also be the waking state, surface thoughts, and the perception of the outside world. It corresponds to the gross dimension.

The subconscious mind (Sanskrit swapna) which is the universal mind, the dream state, individual memory and mind corresponds to the subtle dimension. There are many who have written about the power s for the subconscious mind. Some of my favorites are Bob Proctor, Joseph Murphy, Wayne Dyer and from the Yogic world Patanjali who wrote the yoga sutra and also the practice of raja yoga which is all bout understanding how to control the mind in order to connect with universal consciousness. It is when we are able to full quieten the mind and impress upon it our desires and visions, that real magic appears. As bob proctor said

The unconscious mind (sushupti in sansakrit) which is the reptilian mind or the part of the mind which control the body but also harbors the seat of our fears. It is also it is also known as the deep conscious sleep state and total memory and corresponds to the causal dimension. As we know fear is an illusion and many of the emotions that we experience are due to the thoughts that we choose to engage in.

Yoga Nidra is referred to as yogic sleep. Why is important to generate and interest and work to try and incorporate it into our self-care routines. Its clear to say that the state of the mind can be etched on the face which determine the fine lines and the wrinkles of the face. As the face is the mask in which we use to interact with our outside world. So whatever is go on inside the mind will make its way out in to your reality through your face and body. Understanding the significance of practicing meditation, yoga nidra, positive affirmations and mantra has been scientifically proven to change and rise the energetic vibration of the body and the mind, taking us into different states of being.

Why should you try it?

·       Induces deep and permanent relaxation of the entire body, mind and personality

·       Brings about a state of meditation

·       Eradicates deep rooted psychological problems, complexes, neuroses, inhibition

·       It helps remove a vast number of psychosomatic aliments such as high blood pressure

·       It acts as a non-chemical tranquiliser and quickly removes insomnia and induces deep sleep.

·       Rejuvenate the whole body, the pranic, physical and mental

·       Opens up mind potential and awakens intuitive faculties.

·       Increases learning and memory capacity, great for students (create and app for students) where it brings extraordinary improvements in the absorption and retention from external sources, as well as internal knowledge from within.

The 3 states of Yoga Nidra vary based on the length at which the individual has been practising, and these are :

1.      Deep refreshing sleep by those who are exhausted and constantly worried.

2.      Psychic sleep a state of conscious dreaming, cleans and polishes the mind and is where the individual is between sleep and wakefulness. The beauty of this stage is where we access the subconscious mind to find the answers to our problems and fears and see visions. This state mind takes a couple of years to achieve.

3.      Cosmic sleep is the highest state in which one experiences bliss, mysticism due to the awakening of kundalini rising up the path of Sushumna Nadi to connect with universal consciousness.
